South Korean Ferry tragedy leads to the cancellation of TV shows in major TV networks

Just an overview of the recent tragedy in South Korea. One of South Korea's most heartbreaking tragedy of all time.

Death toll increases to more than 100 after a week since Sewol, South Korean ferry, capsized and sank off Jindo Island in the morning of April 16, 2014. Sadly most of its passengers are high school students as they were going to Jeju Island for a school field trip. Out of  400+ passengers on board, roughly half of them were rescued, many were students.

Survivors said that they heard a loud bang before the ship tilted and the command they heard from the deck was to stay on board. Many followed the order and unfortunately they were the one's who were not rescued and sank together with the ship. Rescuers are still doing their best to find survivors but because of extreme water temperature and it is almost a week since the incident, chances of finding survivors are less and the rescue is now on a search and retrieval operation. Parents of the children are anxiously waiting to get news from the rescue operations.

The whole of South Korea is mourning for this tragedy. The rest of the world is with them. We pray that there are still survivors waiting to be saved. Hopefully,  rescuers would be able to find survivors.

In line with the country's mourning, most of the TV networks of South Korea including SBS, MBC, KBS have cancelled thier drama shows, while other networks, Mnet and TvN cancelled their music and comedy programs for the weekend. As one article says "No dancing, singing or comedy throughout the weekend" because of the ferry disaster.

Sadly, not everybody can understand the situation. I'm just not sure if they do not understand the situation or they have not heard of the ferry tragedy in Korea. Avid watchers of Korean Drama from other countries are complaining of the delay in the update of their favorite drama series. Heck, what can we do? It is just delayed one week, why not wait till then? The drama or the network will not run away, right? Let's just respect the decisions of the TV networks in South Korea. Any country would have done the same if the same thing happens to them.

As for me, I use this opportunity to catch up on the dramas I have backlogs on. ^_^ Honestly, I have a lot of unfinished dramas that I need to do a marathon on someday. The recently concluded, Inspiring Generation, Emergency Couple, are just a few of the dramas I need to finish. So this is a great opportunity for me to catch up. I just hope others would do the same instead of just complaining.

Amidst this time of crisis, we can only depend on each other and extend our sympathy to the families of the victims and send our prayers to the victims of the tragedy. Hopefully, no other tragedies like this will ever happen anywhere. Be safe everyone! ^_^
