Korean Drama: Jackpot 2016

ALRIGHT! Another Jang Geun Suk entry to add after so many years! :)

After Bel Ami (Pretty Boy) 2013 comes Jang Geun Suk's latest Korean Drama, Jackpot. I missed watching him act rather than sing. His acting skills will be put to the test in this new series because this is not his typical drama where his character is always on the cool side. Because Jackpot is a period drama, this has a more serious tone than any of his previous dramas.

Jun Kwang-ryul as Lee In-jwa (ko)
Choi Min-soo as King Sukjong
Yoon Jin-seo as Suk-bin Choe
Lim Ji-yeon as Dam-seo

As a new born Baek Dae Gil (Jang Geun Suk), had the worst childhood experience. Not only was he born premature, but was also hostaged then given away by his mother. He would have had a normal childhood if he was just a nobody but he isn't. Too bad, he is the king's son with the water maid who later became the Queen. Fast forward to the present, Dae Gil still experienced a lot of misfortune after meeting Yi In Jwa, the villain in the drama, but their meeting unlocked his luck which lead him to be a master swordsman and owner of a lot of Casino. He later found out about his identity and is having problems accepting it. Will he be able to get back at Yi In Jwa for killing the father who raised him? Or will he become a king himself just because he is the lost prince?

Although I previously wished to see Jang Geun Suk in a period drama because I wanted to see him wear the traditional clothing but I personally think he doesn't fit in it now. He looks good in Hanbok but his pretty face is not shining through because he keeps wearing a hat. :b I want to see his hair being free. We have been seeing him bubbly in his other drama but in this one, it's so serious. It is so not him!  His acting is good as always but somehow he is holding back something. I say Lee Joon Ki is the perfect male lead for any historical drama. Jang Geun Suk had acted in some period drama Hong Gil Dong and Hwang Jin Yi, but they were only supporting roles.

One thing to note is that in all of Jang Geun Suk's drama, he usually sings at least one of the soundtrack but in this one, I don't see any or the one I am looking at is not updated? Hmmm  Also, the love story part is not the main focus but they are going more with the bromance. Alright!

We are still halfway through the drama and more revelations to be revealed. I am not so thrilled with the plot of this drama compared with other period  drama like Scholar of the Night (which I will write about soon) but still watching because of Jang Geun Suk.
